A Safe Place

A Safe Place provides safe housing and supportive counseling options to survivors of domestic violence at no charge. Additional services include abuser intervention groups, and education programs for professionals, students and the community-at-large.

Cabrini Green Legal Aid (CGLA)

CGLA provides both criminal and civil legal services, integrated with social work support, to individuals facing barriers stemming from an encounter with the criminal justice system. They provide services in areas of acute need, including criminal records relief, defense, family and housing law.

CARPLS

CARPLS provides low- & moderate-income Cook County residents with free access to experienced attorneys. CARPLS’ free hotline gives people direct access to experienced attorneys who help our clients better understand their legal rights and the remedies.

Catholic Charities is an organization that provides food, clothing, shelter and counseling to the city of Chicago and its suburbs.

Family Service of Lake County

Family Service of Lake County is a community mental health agency that strengthens families through counseling, education and related support services. They help individuals succeed in school, at work, in relationships and within their community.

Fenix Family Health Center

Fenix Family Health Center is a facility that provides healthcare-related services to low income and Spanish-speaking individuals in Lake County.  The facility meets the needs of its patients with flexible hours, 24-hour emergency availability, and mental health services.

ICIRR can offer an attorney referral list as well as other resources.

Illinois Department of Children & Family Services (DCFS)

Illinois DCFS is an agency designed to protect children who are reported to be abused or neglected and to increase their families’ capacity to safely care for them; provide for the well-being of children in their care; provide appropriate, permanent families as quickly as possible for those children who cannot safely return home; support early intervention and child abuse prevention activities and work in partnerships with communities to fulfill this mission.

Illinois Department on Aging: Elder Abuse

The Illinois Department on Aging offers information on reporting suspected abuse, financial exploitation or neglect of an older person or a person with disabilities age 18-59.

Illinois Legal Aid Online increases access to justice for lower-income and vulnerable Illinois residents through the innovative use of technology to assist and educate the public and to train and support legal aid providers and pro bono attorneys.

Lake County Bar Association (LCBA)  If HPHLAC cannot take your case, the LCBA has an attorney referral service, as well as public services and workshops. Members of the Lake County Bar Association provide legal services to residents of Lake County, Illinois.

The Lilac Tree is a safe haven and resource for women facing separation and divorce in Illinois. They provide education, support, and resources to women at any stage in the divorce process– contemplating, divorcing, or divorced.

Moraine Township

Moraine Township government administers public funds to provide responsive, efficient and compassionate services and support for residents in all of Highwood, most of Highland Park, and small portions of Deerfield and Lake Forest.


NIJNational Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC)

NIJC provides direct legal services to immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers residing in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Indiana and offers several resources for immigrants on its website, such as immigration process flow charts, how to avoid immigration fraud, administrative relief, and resources for immigrant children and young adults.

National Resource Center on Domestic Violence (NRCDV)

The NRCDV is comprehensive source of information for those wanting to educate themselves and help others on the many issues related to domestic violence. They work to improve community response to domestic violence and, ultimately, prevent its occurrence.

Navy Fleet and Family Support Program (FFSP)

The Navy FFSPs support individual and family readiness through a full array of programs and resources, which help Navy families be resilient, well-informed and adaptable to the Navy environment. These programs and services are currently delivered from 81 sites worldwide.

Nicasa

Nicasa is a not-for-profit behavioral health services organization that is building brighter futures for vulnerable and at-risk children, adults, and families in Lake County and northern Illinois. Their mission is to empower and promote healthy lifestyles to prevent and treat substance abuse, addiction, and other risky behaviors.

Noah’s Rest

Noah’s Rest is an organization dedicated to arranging safe, temporary shelter for pets of domestic violence victims attempting to leave an abusive situation. They will provide pets with shelter and veterinary care for up to 60 days and their program successfully reunites individuals with their pets after they have left a situation of family violence or abuse.

Prairie State Legal Services is an organization that offers free legal services for low income persons and those age 60 and over who have serious civil legal problems and need legal help to solve them.

Renacer Latino Inc.

Renacer Latino is an organization that has been dedicated to providing bilingual and bicultural psychotherapeutic services, partner abuse intervention, anger management and parent support services to members of the Lake County area for over 7 years. They place a special emphasis on the Latino/Hispanic community.

Sarah’s Inn

Sarah’s Inn is a community-based non-profit organization whose mission is to improve the lives of those affected by domestic violence and to break the cycle of violence for future generations. Their services and initiatives focus on ending relationship violence through domestic violence crisis intervention, community education, and violence prevention programs for youth.

Zacharias Sexual Abuse Center

ZCenter has been serving the community as a non-profit center against sexual assault and abuse since 1983. They offer free, confidential services in English and Spanish to support survivors, significant others and non-offending loved ones on their healing journey.

        • Fair Housing Ordinance: Policy securing to all persons living or wanting to live in Highland Park a fair opportunity to purchase, lease, rent, or occupy housing without discrimination based on race, color, religion or national origin.
        • Housing Code: Establishing minimum regulations governing the conditions and maintenance of all existing property, building, and structures.
        • Rental Registration: Establishing the requirement and procedure of registration for all regulated rental dwellings.
