What are the perks of being an Intern at the Highland Park- Highwood Legal Aid Clinic?

Interning at the Highland Park- Highwood Legal Aid Clinic is a great way of getting a comprehensive look into the non-profit and legal services world. We are committed to making sure interns leave with an understanding of how legal clinics are run and how they help surrounding communities. Interns will be given the opportunity to sit in on intakes, go to court, practice grant writing skills, research surrounding communities, and more.

Are internships paid?

No, interns are not paid. However, we are more than willing to work around other work schedules so that interns are able to have the experience of interning at the clinic while also maintaining other commitments.

Can I get academic credit for my internship?

Yes! We will gladly submit materials required for receiving academic credit. Applicants who are pursuing credit at their school must submit necessary information and fulfillment requirements to HPHLAC before the internship begins.

What is the time commitment?

Interns can work either part or full time. Interns typically work 15-25 hours a week.

Where would I be working?

All interns work at our office located at 491 Laurel Ave, Highland Park, IL 60035.

When would I start / end my internship?

Dates vary depending on school schedules and other factors. Summer internships typically last 2-3 months, and we are flexible with start and end dates.

Who are we looking for?

We are primarily interested in students who are in college or about to enter their first year of undergraduate studies. Experience in grant writing and/or speaking another language (especially Spanish, Polish, or Korean) is a huge plus!
